A little bit about our history:

Paarl became a municipality in 1840 and is one of the oldest towns in South Africa. In the early days, Paarl was well known for its wagons and carts. The wagons made here played an important part in the exploration of Southern Africa. Back then parts of the Berg River Valley were known as Val du Charron (Valley of the Wagons) and Wagenmakers Vallei (Wagon Makers Valley). The Kimberley Diamond Rush in 1870 and the Witwatersrand Gold Rush in 1886 saw a huge upsurge in the demand for reliable transport in South Africa. Diggers, businessmen and transport riders all needed wagons. This caused the wagon industry of Paarl and Wellington to flourish.

Lavish houses were built by the wagon makers and Olive Tree Lodge was one of these houses. The original building facing Main Road, was built in the late 1800’s. During the beginning of the 1900’s the wing on the east side was added as stables and in 1990 the western wing was built.

Olive Tree Boutique Hotel, owned by Jandre Arangies and Janet van der Merwe, features 15 elegant guest rooms, a cozy communal lounge, courtyard with swimming pool and several tranquil outdoor spaces perfect for relaxation.
